Recount Text, Advertisement, and Letter (Definition, Generic Structure, Example)

Recount
-         Recount is a text which retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is either to inform or to entertain the audience.
-         Generic Structure
1. Orientation: Introducing the participants, place and time
2. Events: Describing series of event that happened in the past
3. Reorientation: It is optional. Stating personal comment of the    writer to the story
                        -   Example
On Saturday night, we went to the Town Hall. It was the last day of the year and a large crowd of people had gathered under the Town Hall clock. It would strike twelve in twenty minutes’ time. Fifteen minutes passed and then, at five to twelve, the clock stopped. The big minute hand did not move. We waited and waited, but nothing happened. Suddenly someone shouted,”It’s two minutes past twelve! The clock has stopped!”
I looked at my watch. It was true. The big clock refused to welcome the New Year. At that moment, everybody began to laugh and sing.

Letter
-         Letter is a text to send to someone and tell about something from writer. It can be formal or informal.
-       Generic Structure
1.             Place and date (address of the sender): Place and date
production of the letter.
2.      Opening greeting: Greeting opening of the letter.
3.      Opening: Opening of the letter.
4.      Contain: Content of the letter.
5.      Closing: Closing of the letter.
6.      Closing greeting: Greeting closing of the letter.
7.      Sign: Signature of the sender.
8.      Name of sender: Name who writes the letter.
Example

Dear Uncle Sam
Uncle, I have some good news for you. Last month I passed my final examination. A week ago I succeeded to join a senior high school competition. Last night my parent promised me to send me a famous English course in my town. They also promised me if my score in English are good, they will send me to a foreign university. Great, isn’t it? I will work hard. I want to be a good dentist like you, Uncle.

3.      User: user of the product.
